A
20-hour bus certification course will be held in Junction July 14-7
from 1:00
p.m.- 6:00 p.m. each
day in the middle school library. A CDL is required but not necessarily prior to taking the bus certification course. You will have to take a driving and written test through the Texas Department of Public Safety at some point in order to be licensed. Your bus certification comes from taking the above 20-hour course. These two things combined qualify you to operate a school bus. Regular route bus drivers are paid $18.00 per hour. Sub route bus drivers are also paid $18.00 per hour. Field trip bus drivers are paid $10.00 an hour drive time and $5.85 per hour wait time. Example: A tennis tournament in San Angelo would be approximately 2 hours drive time to San Angelo and approximately 2 hours drive time back to Junction for a total of 4 hours drive time or $40.00. The tournament starts at 8:00 a.m.and ends around 7:00 p.m. for 11 hours of wait time or $64.35. The total amount paid for a field trip bus driver to this tennis tournament would be $40.00 for drive time and $64.35 for wait time for a total amount of $104.35. Tournaments such as tennis usually take 2 days. A driver could earn over $200.00 for two days minus taxes. |
