Some of you have asked me to explain “unsafe schools” – how are unsafe schools defined and how does such a label affect a school. Texas qualifies schools as “unsafe” if they report a minimum of three expellable offenses per 1,000 students per year for three years in a row. Common examples of such offenses include possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, and arson. By law, parents can transfer their children out of schools labeled “unsafe”. In addition, schools must submit a corrective plan within 30 days. Discipline and Cell Phones JHS is adopting a new discipline consequence, effective immediately, to stop cell use. If a cell phone is heard or seen while in the building the phone will be taken from the student and brought to the office. The 1st offense will result in a $15 fine. The 2nd offense will result in a $25 fine. The 3rd offense will result in a $35 fine. The 4th offense will result in a $45 fine. The phone will not be returned until the fine is paid and the fine can only be paid after school. The 5th offense will result in the phone being kept until the remainder of the school year. If a student is expecting an emergency phone call during the day they will be required to turn their phone into the office prior to school. If the emergency call is made the student will be notified. Extra curricular Code of Conduct
JISD coaches and sponsors have reviewed the current extra
curricular code of conduct making proposed changes for the
2008-2009 school year. The proposed extra curricular changes
will be presented to the Board of Trustees at the April board
meeting for final approval. |
