Dear Parents/Guardians:

Cell phone use at JHS has become a problem in the classrooms and hallways. Students are using the phones to text and make calls. We have tried several measures to stop students from using their phones but so far we have had very little success. We are now adopting a new discipline consequence, effective immediately, to stop cell phone use at JHS. If a cell phone is heard or seen while in the building the phone will be taken from the student and brought to the office.

The 1st offense will result in a $15 fine. The phone will not be returned until the fine is paid and the fine can only be paid after school.

The 2nd offense will result in a $25 fine. The phone will not be returned until the fine is paid and the fine can only be paid after school.

The 3rd offense will result in a $35 fine. The phone will not be returned until the fine is paid and the fine can only be paid after school.

The 4th offense will result in a $45 fine. The phone will not be returned until the fine is paid and the fine can only be paid after school.

The 5th offense will result in the phone being kept until the remainder of the school year.

If a student is expecting an emergency phone call during the day they will be required to turn their phone into the office prior to school. If the emergency call is made the student will be notified.

Also, parents a reminder that the dress code policy is in effect. We are having some students wear clothes that do not meet dress code standard. Please review the dress code with your student and reinforce the JISD dress code policy. Students who violate the dress code are subject to possible consequences that include ISS, Corporal Punishment, Suspension, or asked to change clothes. It is our desire to have the students wearing the appropriate clothes while attending JHS.

This is the second semester of school and it is time to tighten the rules to off set any problems that we could encounter. Thank you for your support and help in correcting these issues.
