Appreciation of JISD School Counselors |

The week of February 4-8 is the week when schools make a united effort to let parents and the community know how the school counseling program serves as an integral component in the educational process for students. The week highlights the tremendous impact counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Parents, administrators, teachers and students considering a career in school counseling often wonder just what it is school counselors do on a daily basis. Why do we need school counselors anyway? On a daily basis, school counselors are involved in character education, violence prevention, career planning and much more. Today’s school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement; personal/social development and career development, ensuring today’s students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow. School counselors are an important part of the educational leadership team and provide valuable assistance to students regardless of whether they work in an elementary school, middle school or high school. School counselors serve a vital role in maximizing student achievement. Incorporating leadership, advocacy and collaboration, counselors promote equity and access to opportunities and rigorous educational experiences for all students. Help JISD celebrate and highlight school counselors. Students, staff, parents and community members, please tell a school counselor, “Thanks for all you do for our children and their future.” Our JISD counselors are Robin Gardner at the secondary level and Kaycie Sullivan at the elementary level. |
