Executive Summary

Junction Independent School District is committed to utilizing technology to enhance curriculum, to expand instructional resources, and to improve operations in every facet of education. To fulfill this commitment, Junction ISD will provide the technological infrastructure and training to prepare students and faculty to utilize technology to reach academic goals. We believe that we must prepare now to meet the challenges of the Internet age. The attached plan provides a paradigm of how we will meet this challenge for the next year. As the plan indicates, many resources will be tapped to provide the needed hardware, software, internal connections, and training. While grants and e-rate funding will be aggressively pursued and state technology funds will be utilized as directed, we realize that local funds will also be required to complete our endeavor to make technology work in our school. Our plan provides information on projections; however, we understand our projections are contingent upon receipts from federal and state resources and the availability of local tax dollars. Technological training will be an integral part of our plan. We will strive to offer a comprehensive summer schedule of technology training in addition to ongoing sessions throughout the school year.

Needs Assessment

Assessment Process:
The Junction ISD Technology Committee is comprised of administrators, technology coordinator, teachers, and support personnel that represent all campuses in our district. This committee meets periodically to plan, recommend, review, and evaluate all areas of the technology infrastructure in our school. The representatives work together to prioritize needs throughout our district.

Existing Conditions:
Junction ISD's district infrastructure network design extends throughout the district. JISD contracts with the Education Service Center, Region XV, to provide bundled services/Internet access through a T1 line. Our local network then sustains the connectivity throughout our district. Our phone system extends to all buildings on campus and features voice mail for all employees. The district has two distance learning labs, one of which includes 21 PCs, digital imaging, audio, and projection equipment in addition to Internet Distance Learning.
Each campus is equipped with networked computers in every classroom, both for student use and teacher use and computer labs for group study.
Junction High School has three computer labs on their campus. The high school library has a networked online card catalog, Internet access, Digital Knowledge Central, and automated checkout.
Junction Middle School utilizes three labs for classroom integration, research, multimedia, and accelerated instruction.
Junction Elementary uses one technology lab for keyboarding and basic technology instruction, another for Accelerated Math and Reading(AMR Lab)and a third for K-2. The RSCCC program is used for student, employee, and financial accounting. Gradespeed is used for grade accounting and attendance. In addition to state technology funds, Junction ISD supplements the technology budget annually with local funds.

Technology Needs:
Junction ISD's needs and issues as identified by the technology committee focus on maintaining and upgrading computers in our district. We feel our teacher/computer ratio and student/computer ratios are acceptable; however, many of our PCs are several years old and will need to be replaced. We also need to purchase additional software that can be accessible on the network. Committee members are considering these needs by campus. Projects to upgrade switches and servers have been submitted through Erate.

Goals, Objectives, and Strategies

GOAL 1: Junction ISD will utilize technology to enhance teaching and learning in curricula, instructional strategies and environments leading to improved student achievement.
