Public Meeting on Budget and Proposed Tax Rate Scheduled August 8, 2012

On Wednesday, August 8 at 6:00 pm JISD is conducting a Public Hearing for the 2012-2013 proposed Budget/Tax Rate in the Middle School Library. All members of the community are encouraged to attend.

One of the superintendent’s statutory duties is to prepare and recommend a budget to the board. Using public input from budget workshop (July 11, 2012), the board and the superintendent arrive at a final document that is the spending plan for the next school year.

The law requires the posting of a “summary of the proposed budget” on the district’s internet site. The summary must show “per student and aggregate spending” on instruction, instructional support, central administration, district operations, and debt services.

A public hearing on the budget is required, with notice of that hearing required to be published in the newspaper at least 10 days before the hearing. At that meeting, the board conducts the public hearing on the budget and tax rate. By law, the budget comes first, followed by the tax rate. Academic excellence is supposed to drive the budget and the budget is supposed to drive the tax rate.

JISD is anticipating adopting a .9533 cent tax rate

I ask for your continued support of our efforts and I welcome your input. Working together, we can do far more than working as individuals.
